A Meadow by Amarathimi A Meadow by Amarathimi
Media: Watercolours
Paper size: 20 cm x 14 cm

I have wanted to paint this scene from my book for a long time and today I finally had enough skill and time to paint it. The character in the picture is Nini enjoying the wonders of the meadow. Cipparies are forest folk and are not allowed to leave the trees because of the dangerous beasts that lurk in the groundÖ :D

This little picture was really enjoyable to paint. I tried a new technique that I learned from a book to paint the grass. Instead of painting it green straight away I painted in with yellow and orange tones first. After the paint had dried I added a new layer using beautiful blues. I really like the result. :D

Iím confused with the new category system. I donít know if I should post my cippari pictures in Fantasy category or in Illustrations category.

Hope you like it!! :aww:

Kiitos. :aww:
Nini on lapsi ja kooltaan vain noin 50-60 cm pitkä... Tosin tuo leppäkerttu on kyllä aikamoinen jättiläinen leppäkertuksi. ;P

Lovely work:aww: The pose of the character and warm summer colors give a feel of careless sunny afternoon. Flitting butterflies add some movement to the piece. Truly adorable!

He-he, I bet the books can really teach us something , that grass looks all and all real, amazing color! Can you believe, not that long ago I bought a magazin about how to paint with watercolor and what have I found there? Exactly the same trick - to use yellow and blue to mix the color of green grass. I would never come to the idea myself. Now ultramarine blue becomes the color number one in my palette, it will be used for so many realistic effects. I work like a crazy trying to practice them all ...with more or less success I go on...:blahblah:

Thank you so much Janna!!
Yes, the books and magazines can be really useful source of techniques. The hardest part is to not to drool or get envy to the example pictures. :D

I love this piece a lot, it's very colorful and full of life.

This technique you mentioned came out looking very nice as well, you used it perfectly.

Also I think you made the right decision to put it in fantasy, because this wonderful race that you have come up is part of your imagination, the fact that its an illustration is just the way you show it to other people. =)

Oh wow. I'll have to try that idea about painting in yellow and orange first. :)

Remember: Don't paint the blue layer before the yellow is surely dry. :D

I'm glad you like the butterfly. It was really small and quite hard to paint. :D
Me too, but I have to stay in and read for the exams. :(
